DIY
D.I.Y videos are where youtubers show you how to make things whether it is clothing, home deco or crafty bits. In some ways they are an alternative to spending money as you are making your own clothing rather than contributing to capitalist society.
But is this true? You have to buy all the bits to create them which could end up costing more than actually buying the product already made. However the selling point is that it is individual, if you are making them yourself no one else can have them. This results in you paying for your individuality.
Postmodernist believe in Individuality, such as Derrida. Derrida says that "Human beings are creative and imaginative, expressing individual and new ideas." Therefore he would be for D.I.Y youtube videos, had he been alive when you tube was created.. unfortunately he died in 2004 a year before the creation of youtube.
Rhiannon from 'Fashion rocks my socks' made a youtube video on how to D.I.Y a pair of shorts. However she was making the video on behalf of 'galaxy upgrades'. This is an example of where youtube is just a way of free advertising, as Market liberalist like.
